Human nature, in all its mysterious and dark ways, rules our desires and those darker areas in our souls that cause us to want those things best left alone. If it's true each of us is different in nearly every way, this is the truest contradiction. Humans, since the beginning of time, have wanted what we couldn't have.

How many times have we taken one look at the most incredible creature ever placed on this earth and the presence of a wedding ring only added to the forbidden attraction that might have felt overwhelming? Although the term 'forbidden' is subjective at best, often, society's rules kick in and we find ourselves avoiding many situations and potential moments of contentment . It's only when we pursue the untouchable that it becomes ours, on some level and even for a brief moment of time.

Perhaps it's that basic human need, a true sense of survival that kicks in and demands we do something, whether it's right or wrong, because if we don't, we're sure we'll fade away, leaving nothing that indicates our ever having there. The biggest fear for so many is becoming a has-been that really never was. Chalk it up to human nature, but we all believe few realizations could be more tragic.

Obtaining or even pursuing the forbidden reminds us we're alive; it demands recognition and anything short of that becomes unacceptable. So we move forward, knowing it's as necessary as the air we're breathing to get there. It is what it is and sometimes that's enough.
